DIGITAL PARTNERS ANNOUNCEMENT OF SOCIAL ENTREPENEUR FINALISTS

Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs 2002 Announcement.

The following is the list of the Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs 2002 awardees
who were finalised last week. All of them will be matched with a major business school
and will be able to use the strengths of these institutions from the US to fine tune their business plans
to move on to seek next level of funding from global social venture funds.

This year we had 140 applications and the following ten have been awarded. Project 1 Organization Name: Artesanas Campesinas Project Name: Artisan-Owned Direct Distribution Model Location: Mexico Women's Artisans Cooperative (Artesanas Campesinas, or ArtCamp), producers of handcrafted fashion jewelry, proposes to establish its own distribution company to sell directly to retailers in the USA and Europe. The ArtCamp Cooperative produces inexpensive, quality handcrafted jewelry; the women design and develop new styles, make original models and molds, match colors, and administrate this cottage-craft industry in the village of Tecalpulco. It is looking to develop a made-to-order model that would consist of an Internet-based catalog and a system of product offers with traditional distributor/fulfillment capability to customers. If successful, ArtCamp would like to share its experience with other developing-world producers so that they can learn from its success. ArtCamp requires assistance primarily with its marketing strategy.
