Sotol: The sotol is a plant that grows across Chihuahua’s desert and mountain ranges, its leaves produce a resistant and flexible fiber. This plant is called Sereke, and is used to produce a distilled beverage called sotol, which is the typical drink in the State of Chihuahua.
The Sereke plant, crushed and mixed with water has many medical uses among the Tarahumaras. The indigenous pick the leaves without harming the plant to make the baskets, allowing it to grow back

In the Tarahumara cave a small open fire burns through the evening, out of oak logs. The round bottomed cooking pots, are placed on top of three stones, above the fire or on the the burning log. Due to the absence of matches, the fire is started with an iron and stone. Such containers are used to ferment their sacred corn beer, called “Tesgüino”, which is ultimately drank in clay pots or vegetable bowls.

The pots are given different uses to carry and store drinking water, aside from its utility in the preparation of the boiled beef shared during the celebrations, which is called “ Tónare”.
In the Sierra exist different types of clay, the less frequent is the white one, whose plasticity allows the manufacturing of more ellaborated handicrafts and utensils such as mugs, pots, salsa bowls and jugs. The product made of these white soils has greater quality and resistance than the one made with common clays.
